Ward Campout

We went to the ward campout up at Mt. Charleston this past weekend. Though they got a good turn out on Friday evening, there were only 27 of us that actually ended up spending the night. I love it when wards do camp outs so I hope they will continue this tradition. Our kids love to camp and Eric and I do as well though I don't know that I would have agreed to anymore than one night being almost 8 months pregnant.
Reagan with her very own camp chair.

Taylor and Daddy in the parking lot of our campsite.

Before heading home Saturday morning, we did a little half mile hike up to Robber's Roost (some caves in a narrow canyon).

Miss Independant -- We brought the backpack but Eric ended up wearing it empty because Reagan insisted on hiking the whole thing by herself.

Sweet Sisters Taylor and Reagan

Project Finished

Its nice to take on a project and actually finish it. We built some shelving in two of our kid's closets to utilize the space in them more effectively. Eric built the shelves and I caulked and painted them. Thanks to our friends for letting us use their saw and nail gun! Now to get the baby's room ready. Anyone LIKE to paint?

AFTER

Lowering the bars in their closets may not have been such a bright idea as it is bringing out the monkey in Reagan. ;)

Baby's First Pictures

For Eric and I's 8th wedding anniversary, we went to a 4D ultrasound place to get a glimpse of our baby. I feel far more impatient than I have with my other pregnancies for this baby to come and I still have 2 months left! I needed something to get me through. What a fun experience it was to get to see so much detail from these pictures and remember why I am doing this. I'm not sure that I'm feeling anymore patient because now that I've seen her precious face, I just want to have her in my arms even more. We've never had 4D done with our other kids so this was a fun experience for Eric and I. Afterward I fed the baby a cheeseburger, fries and a shake to top off the night. Enjoy some of the pics and see if you can tell who she's looking like.

Sometimes her arm or the cord would get in the way of her face.

Two hands and a foot

During these 2 shots, she seemed to be starting to fuss. I loved any little facial expression she would give us!

The tech said she probably weighed about 4 lbs already and if she continued at that rate she would be at least 8 lbs. by 40 weeks.

Continue growing baby girl and Mommy will try and be patient until which time we really meet!

First Day of First Grade

Taylor started school on August 24th as a first grader with only a 2 week break since she graduated from Kindergarten. I wasn't sure how she would handle the full day school schedule but she did great and seemed even more excited for the 2nd day of school than she did with the first. She loved having lunch at school and I was relieved to know that she had sat with a couple of her friends and not by herself (this was only my concern--mommy's don't want their kids to be lonely!) It appears she only has 16 kids in her class which is about 7 less than she had in Kindergarten. So far so good!

Will also started preschool the same day and goes to a neighbors house down the street. This is so nice for me because its so close and its nice having some time to run errands with only Reagan as my shopping buddy (that will only last a couple of months but hey, it will be good for getting ready for this baby to come!) Will went into preschool without any hesitation. He was very excited.I look forward to watching both of my kids learn and grow this year in school.

Hanging out in Utah

After the reunion, Eric would be traveling to Denver for work so we took advantage of the fact that Taylor was out of school and stayed at my parents house for the week. We got together with Eric's family Monday night before Eric headed out of town. It was fun to compare bellies with Eric's sister Robin who is due the same day as me (why didn't we take a picture?) and enjoy some homemade rootbeer and let the kids play with their cousin Emma who they hadn't seen for a while.

Tuesday some of my cousins came over with their kids for a backyard playdate and picnic in my mom's backyard. My dad has constructed a big swingset/playland for the grandkids which Taylor, Will and Reagan were entertained in all week long! They have a half acre with trees for shade and fortunate for us, corn on the cob which was ready for the eating. I did plenty of that too during this week! The weather was SO nice this week with temperatures in the 70s and 80s.
We needed to take time at the zoo since Las Vegas doesn't have much of one to speak of. This picture shows all the little cousins that came with us that day (minus Spencer).

We had to ride the Merry-Go-Round of course.
And Reagan and I obsessed for a while over the baby giraffe.
Other highlights from our trip included snuggling with my new nephew Spencer, eating at Enjoy (great Chinese food!) and just spending time with family.

Saturday, we all were present in Rock Springs, WY for my neice Holly's baptism. We would have loved to stay up there and visit longer but alas, we had to start our journey back home since we had a 10 hour drive ahead of us. Luckily we decided to split it up and spent the night in Cedar City so its wasn't too bad.
You gotta love the 2 year olds! From youngest to oldest--Reagan, Noah, Ava, Coleman and Hannah.
I will end this post on that happy note!

Moon Lake Family Reunion

Cydnee, Will and Reagan met up with the would be adventures Taylor and Eric at Moon Lake Campgroup in the mid-afternoon of Friday, August 15th. It was the yet another amazing Coggle Family Reunion, and the relatives where already flowing in. Since we were staying with Cydnee's parents in their tent trailer and had nothing to actually setup, we quickly wandered down to the lake so the kids could throw rocks . . .

. . . and get into the water . . .
. . . and then get really wet.

After heading back to camp and cleaning up for the evening, we cooked up some dinner and socialized around the fire (aka, rosted a lot of marshmellows to eat with chocolate). We finally called it a night when the rain started coming down. And then it really started to rain, followed by a heavy rainfall, and finally the downpour came. We were glad to be in Nana and Papa's tent trailer, and stayed dry as can be. Others didn't not fare so we'll, with casualties ranging from some minor spread out wetness to tents creating small resevoirs with air matresses floating on top. But since we weren't wet at all, we decided to venture out into the fridged morning and enjoyed a great breakfast and a nice warm fire.

Later that morning we got together with all of Cydnee's siblings (at least those that came) and went on a hike around Moon Lake (a half mile of it anyway). Taylor took off with her braver cousins up a steep trail, and the rest of us took on an easier hike with Kyle and his family. Reagan was very independant and insisted on doing the majority of the hiking herself.

Will and Kyle were inserperable, and had a great adventure together.

With more looming thunderstorm clouds looming on the horizon, we high tailed it back to camp hoping to avoid being washed out to sea (or lake in this case). The most exciting moment on the trip back was when Tommy just bounded out of the forest to join us.

After lunch Eric took Taylor fishing with Cydnee's Uncle Mark. Taylor could not have been more excited. She was fishing just like Strawberry Shortcake (a fact we did not share with Uncle Mark). After we got everything setup, Eric gave Uncle Mark's daughter a ride back to camp, returning to find that both Taylor and Ellie had caught their first fish ever. They were both so proud.

With the help of Uncle Darrell, Taylor gutted her fish, cooked it over the fire, and ate her first fish as well. Even though she was tired of Daddy taking pictures by the end of it all, she was a good sport and kept posing anyway.

That night we had the annual Coggle Family Dutch Oven Cookoff. I think we all ate more than is healthy for any one person, and yet with so much good food, how could we not? We then sat around the fire, made another amazing round of smores, were entertained with skits, musical performances, and plain ol good company. We enjoyed the clear skys well into the evening, until we were driven back to the tent trailer by fridgid temperatures.

That night it got cold . . . really, really cold. Thank goodness for the stove in the tent trailer. Maybe it was the fact we were prepared for little more than cool Las Vegas evening, but I don't know how everyone survived the freezing cold without a heater.

Sunday morning we had a great dutch oven breakfast thanks to Nana, packed up, and headed out. We stopped off at Brooke and Dereks new home to check it out on the way back. It is so nice, and we are really happy for them. After leaving the socially acceptable amount of dirt behind, and the kids inflicting their signature amount of damage, we headed over guardsman's pass and found a nice renovation project to clean up and spend the night in.

Daddy Daugther Backpacking at Arta Lake

Taylor is really starting to really grow up, and I can't believe that she just went on her first overnight backpacking trip. We were headed up to Moon Lake just south of the High Uinta Wilderness for an extended family reunion, and Eric decided to sneak in an extra night to introduce Taylor to one of his favorite activities.

We headed out of the blistering heat of the Las Vegas valley in the early, hot afternoon of Wednesday, August 12th. It was kind of stressful since Eric was too boneheaded to take any time off work, so he had to pretend that he was still working. He sure can spend a lot of time on the phone. We finally made it to Nana and Papas house around 10:30 at night. Cydnee lounged around and watched the pack mule (aka Eric) carry in all our possesions, and then we put the kids to bed and quickly fell asleep ourselves. Unfortunately that meant Eric had to get up at 4:00 the next morning to finish all the work he didn't do while he was playing hooky, so he was not much more than a walking zombie when everyone started to showed up at 8:00.

The backpacking crew was a force to be reconned with. Eric and Taylor, Ethan and Amy, Adam and Kyle, Paul and Olivia, and Tommy and Jack. Dawn's family also joined the intrepid exploreres for the first part of their trip, but quickly make their getaway at the first opportunity.

Instead of planning out the best route, Eric simply picked the shortest route with little regard for Ethan and Amy's aging Buick (which Eric and Taylor stowed passed on since Cydnee misappropriated the Land Cruiser for her own wicked pleasures). After several miles of rough dirt roads, the Buick finally gave up just feet before the road started going down hill and overheated. This provided a nice break to eat lunch, play frisbee, and run around.

After nursing the Buick back to semi-health, the misfits finally made their way to the Arta Lake trailhead on the north west edge of the Ashley National Forest just south of the Grand Daddy Lakes. Everyone loaded up, and set out on a grand back packing adventure. The hike in was support to be a simple one mile trek, but due to the absence of a great trail and Eric's somewhat deficient leadership skills, they quickly started roaming in circles and probably covered twice the distance they should have.

They arived at a small lake that almost could have been Lake Arta, especially since no one really new what Lake Arta looked like, had then been a lot more water. But the clouds were rolling in, so it didn't really matter what lake this was, just that the dry lakebed made a really nice meadow, and tents would make really good cover for a storm.

Everyone got their tents setup just in time as it started raining. Or at least it seemed like rain, with a lot of snow mixed in, kind of luck a Slurpee without any delicious flavoring. Taylor performed to pass the time while Jack kept trying to figure out how to get in.

After the rain let up, Adam got out some bubbles, and Taylor, Kyle, Olivia, and Tommy had a fun time blowing bubbles and chasing them. Taylor even started warming up to Tommy.

After resting through the storm, the sun came out and it turned into a nice afternoon. We headed up the trail and found the real Arta Lake. (It was devastating to realize we probably only hiked in around 1/3 of a mile). Paul and the kids tried their hand at fishing in what appeared to be a completely sterile lake. Tommy had a great time swimming around and fetching anything someone would throw into the water. And of course the kids threw rocks into the lake every chance they got.

After a fun day at the lake, everyone headed back to camp for dinner. While Ethan, Amy, Adam and Kyle kept it simple with Cup O Noodles, Paul and Olivia make chicken and rice and Eric and Taylor made Taylor's favorite snake noodles (Pasta Roni). And since the guys couldn't light a match to save their lives, let alone start a fire, Amy had to step in and show them how it was done.

Taylor also took advantage of the break and practiced her bouldering skills while Eric and Ethan ran back to the car to retrieve a five gallon water jug since the water from Lake Carl was a little on the yellow side.

We got camp cleaned up for the night not a second too soon as the rain started coming down again. We scurried off to our tents as the floodgates opened, it was the beginning of a long night. Of course Taylor had to take a picture of Daddy (note the rain covered window in the background).

And Daddy reciprocated with a picture of Taylor (note she is not recoiling from fear or pending rain, just the knowledge that at any minute the absolute darkness will be overcome by a blinding light know as the flash).

It rained well into the night, and though Taylor fell quickly asleep, Eric could hear every drop hit the tent in slow motion. But the backpacking tent Cydnee had bought performed more than admirable for its first rain storm. The only moisture to be found in the tent was the small puddle of water that leaked from Taylor's water bottle. The other three tents did not perform nearly as admirably. Ethan's tent leak just a little, but was largely ok, Paul's tent had some moisture come in, though it may have just been Jack running in and out. And let's just say it was a good thing that Adam and Kyle had a thick sleeping bag. While Eric was restless, a little cold and ready to get up at first light, Taylor slept like a log, toasty and warm all night long. Of course, once she got out of her sleeping bag it was a different story.

We got up in the morning, dried out all of our gear, had some cold cerial, dried out some more gear, clean-up camp, dried out some more gear, played, dried, packed up and headed back to the cars. Taylor's first backpacking adventure was a rave success, with many more to follow now.
