Pioneer Day Church and Trains

The original plan was to make our Sundays more restful days.  But moving between towns isn't exactly a recipe for restful, and we were going almost all day long.  We got up early so that we could pack up all our stuff and then get ready for church.  Since getting ready for church is usually an all morning ordeal by itself, packing was just an extra bonus.  But we managed to get ready in fine fashion.

It was a nice Pioneer Day meeting in a beautiful location.  The church had trees around most of it, and it felt like it was in a forest.  The kids has a fun time climbing on a rock in the middle of the lawn at the church.  Big rocks are always fun, sometimes I wish we had some in our yard.  Maybe our next home.

After church, we left the Tahoe area and headed to the west coast.  We held out until Sacramento for lunch, but when we got there, we couldn't find any parking near any of the parks.  We finally made our own lunch spot on a small patch of grass outside the state library.

After lunch, we went to old town Sacramento.

We visited the California State Railroad Museum.

This was a very fun place for the kids.  The museum was full of real trains that had been restored and turned into exhibits the kids could look in, climb on, and play with.

The kids thought it was amazing they could sit in the drivers seat on a real train.

There were a lot of staged exhibits like this with wax statues showing what life was like during the railroad heyday.

There really were trains everywhere.

The was the cutest sack of mail on the whole postal car.

The people in this kitchen from a dining car freaked some of the kids out.

Lyndsey was ready to get something to eat.

Cydnee's sister and her family who joined us for most of our trip.

Our family.

After looking at the real trains, the kids had a great time playing with model trains.  This plastic bubble in the middle of the track was a big hit.

I wasn't sure we would ever be able to get Lyndsee away from the trains.  She was in heaven.

After the train museum, we drove through Sonoma valley to our resort in Windsor, CA.  Lyndsee was ready to be done with a full day, and decided to hide herself instead of enjoying the scenery, but the rest of us really enjoyed the wine country.

After a fun filled sabbath, we loaded all of our stuff into the condo and got some rest for a big day in San Francisco.

We are both nerds for not getting pics of the vineyards. They were gorgeous. I loved that drive.
